Abortion Statistics

// May 14th, 2009 // No Comments » // Humanistic Abortion

The following are facts and statistics gathered from the most-cited sources regarding abortion. Ultimately, to know the truth is to know more than just the facts and numbers. Truth is a person, so it’s not an encounter with an idea that will adequately change us. It is an encounter with God that will bring true transformation. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.” Minds can be swayed by facts, but an encounter with the Lord changes both hearts and minds.
Abortion Worldwide

* Annually, 46 million babies die from abortion worldwide. That’s approximately one baby being aborted every two seconds.

Abortion in the United States

* An estimated 50 million babies have been aborted since 1973. Approximately 24% of all U.S. pregnancies end in abortion.

Characteristics of Women Having Abortions

* Over half (56%) of all women having abortions between 15-44 are in their 20’s.
* Nearly eight in 10 U.S. women obtaining an abortion report a religious affiliation.
o 43% are Protestant
o 27% are Catholic
o 8% are other religions
* 41% of women having abortions are white, 32% are black, and 20% are hispanic.

* Black and Hispanic women have higher abortion rates than non-Hispanic white women. Black women’s abortion rates are 49 per 1,000, Hispanic women’s are 33 per 1,000 and non-Hispanic white women’s are 13 per 1,000.

* According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, the most recurrent characteristics of women having abortions over time are nonwhite, poor and unmarried.

Reasons For Abortion

* 98% Personal Choice (unwanted or inconvenient)
* 1.7% Life/Health of Mother or Child
* .3% Rape/Incest

Abortion by Gestational Age

African American Community

* According to the CDC, each year 616,074 African Americans are born.
* 458,500 babies will have died from abortion.
* 284,877 blacks will have died that same year through anything from natural causes to heart disease.
* There are 743,377 Africans Americans dying yearly. This number is 127,303 more than those that are born.
* From 1973 to 2004, nearly 30% of the black population were erased through abortion. Out of the average 4,400 babies dying daily that are reported abortions, an estimated 1,300 are African American. They account for 32% of women having abortions yearly, yet make up only 13% of the American population. African American women are 3 times as likely to have an abortion than other women.

Eugenics the Sinister Science

Eugenics the Sinister Science
Legalized abortion has defied the unalienable right to Life and allowed the most marginalized and voiceless group in America to be slaughtered in the womb. Yet this injustice did not begin with denying Life. It began when we embraced the ideals of eugenics and rejected the first truth, that all men are created equal. Only by exposing the roots of legalized abortion in a legacy of eugenics can America have a full understanding of the injustice in this nation.

Eugenics is a science concerned with improving the human species, by such means as influencing or encouraging reproduction by persons presumed to have desirable genetic traits (Hunt, Abortion and Eugenics). This idea of creating a better race is not a new concept. Though eugenics was not a word then, Plato theorized that an elite human race could be conceived if animal breeding tactics were applied to humans (Cavanaugh-O’Keefe, The Roots Chapter One).

Like the eugenicists that would come after him, he rejected the Biblical principle that every man is predestined by God, called for a certain purpose, and created in the perfect image of God. Jeremiah 1:5 says, Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Plato could not control what man became through breeding techniques, for it is God who creates man.

Despite its faulty foundation, the theory survived through the years. It was finally labeled “eugenics” by Sir Francis Galton in the late nineteenth century. He created the word from two Greek words. The first part, eu (eu), means good. John Cavanaugh-O’Keefe points out that many words with the eu- prefix make a terrible thing appear good, with examples such as eulogy, euphemism, and euthanasia. The second part of the word comes from the Greek word gen (gen). Gen denotes birth or race (Cavanaugh-O’Keefe, The Roots Chapter One).

In one of his addresses, Galton explained that after studying plant and animal methods, he was convinced that traits were hereditary, good and bad alike. Therefore, it is possible to breed people to eliminate the “undesirables” and to multiply the “desirables” (Galton). However, all Galton had was theory based on observation. (more…)

Bound4LIFE International
After 50 days of round-the-clock corporate prayer and fasting for the 2004 elections, a group of prayer warriors — young and old alike — packed up their sleeping bags and headed to Washington, DC filled with purpose and confidence that prayer can change the course of a nation.

For 31 days they stood at the United States Supreme Court with the word “LIFE” written raw on a piece of red tape that covered their mouths. Their silent prayers rose day after day to the Court that’s higher than the highest court in the land–31 days for 31 years of legalized abortion in America. What was birthed during that time of intercession has gone on to impact the entire nation in a very short period of time.

If you go to the Supreme Court today, you will find a company still there. Through rain, blizzards and scorching heat they have never abandoned the siege. They are there until the Judges reverse the decree of death.

And its spreading.
Bound4LIFE is a grassroots prayer mobilization movement targeting the ending of abortion, the increase of adoptions and the reformation of government and society through spiritual awakening. Our mission is to mobilize a groundswell of prayer through:

* “Silent Sieges” in front of courthouses and abortion clinics across the nation.
* Millions of Christians wearing “Life Bands” and making the Bound4LIFE covenant–PRAY, VOTE & OBEY.

When LIFE tape is placed over our mouths, we are identifying with the silent screams of the unborn and of those who have no voice. Our stand is not a protest, but a silent prayer meeting. We make our appeal to the Judge of the earth and ask Him for speedy justice to be released. Oh that God would subpoena the conscience of the nation!

The media has taken hold of this image and spread it everywhere. It has quickly become a phenomenon that catches the eyes and hearts of the world.

In our silence, we intercede on behalf of our nation and cry out to God for mercy. It is a silence that speaks louder than words. We must build up this wall! May our tears soak the sidewalks, and may a silent cry go forth all over our land!
